BAE Series Low-Backlash Planetary Reducer for Servo Axes

A BAE planetary gearbox is a low-backlash servo reducer built around a one-piece planet carrier, ground 20CrMnTi gears, and direct motor flange mounting. BAE series planetary reducers serve servo and stepper axes that need high torque density in a short stack length. Seven frame sizes span 42 mm to 235 mm, with single-stage ratios 3:1–10:1 and two-stage ratios 15:1–100:1. Each BAE planetary gearbox is backlash-measured and run-in before it leaves the line.

Why the BAE Series Holds Its Accuracy

Gears are ground after carburizing. BAE planetary gearbox teeth reach HRC 58–62, then get finish-ground with tip relief at both ends of the mesh. This is what keeps backlash consistent across the full tooth width and holds noise below 62 dB at 3,000 rpm.
Planet carrier bored in one setup. The three pin bores are cut in a single clamping, holding load sharing within 0.01 mm at rated torque. Multi-piece carriers show uneven wear here after a few thousand hours.
Output bearings set with preload. Tapered roller bearings hold axial play under 0.02 mm. This matters on rack-and-pinion axes, timing belt drives and tool spindles where a few hundredths of a millimetre shows up in the finished part.
Flange machined into the input housing. IEC, NEMA and flanges for Yaskawa, Siemens and Parker servo motors are cut directly into the housing with a clamp-style coupling — no adapter plate, shorter overall length.
Measurement record travels with each unit. Backlash, running torque, vibration and temperature rise are logged against the serial number and ship with the box.

≤3 arcmin is the measured upper limit on a single-stage precision unit. Input is locked, ±2% of rated torque is applied to the output, and angular displacement is read at the output flange. A two-stage build typically adds about 2 arcmin.

Can the BAE planetary gearbox mount shaft-up or in any other orientation?

Yes — the grease fill is specified for any mounting position. No oil sump, no orientation restriction, no re-lubrication needed after installation.
